Singapore updates data protection law to exclude user consent for ‘legitimate’ business purposes

Amendments have been added to the country’s Personal Data Protection Act to allow businesses to use consumer data without prior consent for some purposes such as business improvement and research, and enforce higher fines for data breaches above the previous cap of S$1 million.
